Aislinn Lock’s work revolves around ideas of adaptation and change, focussing on the tension between the natural world, and modern human development/ encroachment. She often likes to use nature as a vessel to convey these ideas and themes.
Lock is particularly interested in exploring the way plants change to survive, in particular how plants adapt through their roots to live in different conditions, and take on the nutrients they need to survive. Investigating ruderal plants, plants that are often considered an invasive species that colonize developed/ disturbed lands, that’re often very hardy, and quick to reclaim land that is abandoned.
Lock is also interested in the Anthropocene Epoch, defined as; ‘The current geological age, in which human activity has been the dominant force influencing climate’, which inspires a lot of her work.
