HANNAH CADE

Hannah Cade is a multidisciplinary artist with a fascination for film negatives. This fascination, merged with her personal practice of documenting the mundane in the form of monthly videos led her to investigate the materiality of Super 8 home movies.

Through her inquiry into the found footage, she manipulated the material by scratching, cutting, stabbing, categorising and submerging it in different liquids. CURA, the film shown in this installation, combines these methods, curating a mix of family memories into one home movie.

Care for Home Movies centres around the loss of intimate gatherings surrounding the documentation of our lives. This form of gathering, prevalent during the heights of Super 8 production, can be replicated with digital media. Altering the way in which we care for and share our recordings of life can prevent our memories from getting lost in the digital caverns of our phones
