Soul is an interdisciplinary artist whose work centres the experiences of those living with mental illness.
The goal is to dispel the stigmatisation and misrepresentation of mental illness. This includes the hyper romanticism and fetishization of the mentally ill. Soul aims to bridge the gap by becoming the vessel that projects the true nature of these monstrous beings through their work. The truth is that society doesn’t need anymore sugar coated versions of what mental illness looks like; they need the truth and hopefully that truth will help the world show more compassion. Soul has been using their own story, living with mental illnesses, a statement in solidarity with others struggling. There’s a rawness to it that is supposed to leave viewers in varying states of emotion. Making the viewer walk a moment in the shoes of the mentally ill, one piece at a time.
